About
Tax filing built for US expats, not retrofitted.
Atamatax is the tax-preparation software the existing market didn't bother to build. TurboTax sells a Live Expat add-on but routes you to a CPA. MyExpatTaxes and Expatfile gate Form 8621 (PFIC) behind their top tier. Boutique expat CPAs are excellent at $1,500–$5,000 per return — but most of our customers can't justify that on straightforward holdings.
What we cover that others don't
- Form 8621 / PFIC — built-in for every customer, with QEF, mark-to-market, and §1291 with the real IRS interest-rate table from 2009 through the current year.
- Treaty desks for France (1994), the UK (2001), Germany (1989), Canada (1980), and Australia (1982). We cite the articles; you keep the receipts.
- Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (Form 2555), Foreign Tax Credit (Form 1116), FBAR / FATCA (Form 8938) — the four-form expat baseline, generated together so the figures reconcile.
- Streamlined Foreign Offshore — three years of return and six years of FBAR preparation are organised year by year; the product does not assemble or transmit the final submission.
What we are not
Atamatax is software, not a CPA firm. We don't represent you to the IRS, give individualised tax advice, or sign your return. We do compute supported federal figures and produce a draft package that maps them to IRS forms and lines, so you can review and complete the official forms and file outside Atamatax. Integrated e-file and return transmission are not available.
Pricing, briefly
Flat per tax year, no usage-based surprises. $299 (no PFICs), $499 (PFICs), $799 (PFICs + treaty positions). Prior years, which ship as worksheets rather than pre-filled official PDFs, are priced at the $199 CPA Export rate. You pay only when you generate the PDF package — the on-screen draft is free. The full breakdown lives on the pricing page.
Who's behind it
Danilson Ramos
Founder · Monthey, Switzerland
I'm a software developer based in Monthey, Switzerland. I built Atamatax because the Form 8621 problem — conventional foreign funds commonly needing PFIC analysis and separate reporting — was being solved with $3,000 CPA engagements or not at all. Atamatax is the missing middle: real PFIC math, honest about its limits, at software prices.
I'm not a CPA or an Enrolled Agent, and Atamatax never pretends otherwise: the engine cites its sources, the methodology is public, and technical content is traceable to published authorities. Independent credentialed review is being arranged and is not claimed until a reviewer is verified. What I sign my name to is the software.
Atamatax is operated by Atamatax — raison individuelle, Suisse (registration pending CHF 100k revenue threshold). For everything else, support@atamatax.com reaches a human — within 24 hours.
