For CPAs, EAs & international tax firms
Prepare complex PFIC cases faster
A client arrives in March with forty UCITS positions, twelve years of holding periods and no cost basis on half of them. The allocation gets built by hand, in a spreadsheet, by whoever built it last time — and the review step has nothing to review against.
The engine that computes those allocations already exists and runs in production. What does not exist is the workspace around it. Before we build one, we want to hear from the people who would use it.
What Atamatax Pro would do
Each row below says plainly whether it exists. The first four run today; the last two are the reason this page has a form on it rather than a price.
Import a client's holdings
AvailableBroker CSV or an Interactive Brokers activity statement, parsed into positions with acquisition dates intact — the dates being the part a spreadsheet loses first and the §1291 allocation depends on entirely.

Identify what is actually a PFIC
AvailableEach holding matched against the security knowledge graph, with the classification reason carried through: a dataset match, or a domicile-based presumption stated as one. No verdict without its basis next to it.

Compute the allocation
Available§1291 across the real holding period with statutory top rates and daily interest, or QEF and mark-to-market where elected — the same engine that runs the consumer product, not a simplified copy.

Produce reviewable workpapers
AvailableA worksheet block per PFIC mapped to the Part I/II/IV/V lines, plus the threshold arithmetic behind every Form 8938 and FBAR conclusion, and an assumption log for anything resting on an attestation.

What this page is
It is a validation page, and saying so seems better than not. There is no practitioner workspace to log into, no trial, and no price — because we have not decided whether to build it, and a firm that signed up expecting software would rightly be annoyed to find a questionnaire.
What we do have is the calculation engine, in production, and a client-handoff package firms use today. What we are missing is a clear picture of how PFIC work actually moves through a firm — which is a thing we cannot derive from our own product and can only be told.
Tell us about your PFIC work
Six questions and one box. No client data, no company details beyond firm size, and nothing that commits you to anything.
Across the whole firm, counting every form on every return.
Request early access
Tell us what actually takes the time. We read every one of these ourselves — it is how the product gets decided.
We reply personally. No newsletter, no sequence, and nothing you enter above is shared.
Questions
- Does Atamatax Pro exist yet?
- No. The calculation engine behind it does — it is what runs the consumer product and produces the CPA Export package today — but the practitioner workspace described here is not built. This page is how we decide whether to build it, and who to build it with. If you sign up you are joining an early-access list, not a product.
- What can I actually use today?
- The $199 CPA Export. A client runs their own holdings through Atamatax and hands you a package: per-fund PFIC classification with the reason attached, a Form 8621 worksheet block per holding, the Form 8938 and FBAR threshold arithmetic, Form 1116 detail, and an assumption log naming every figure that rests on a client attestation. It is a preparation package for you to review, not a filed return.
- Would I be handing you my clients' data?
- Not on this page — nothing here asks for a client name, a holding, or a file. When a pilot exists it will be scoped and agreed in writing before any client data moves, and it will start with a sample rather than a live engagement. We would rather learn slowly than hold data we have not earned.
- How is this different from the consumer product?
- The consumer product is one person, one return, one tax year. A practitioner needs many clients, a review step, an audit trail, and a year-over-year rollover — and the pricing question changes from a package price to per form, per client, or per seat. Those differences are the product, and they are exactly what we are asking you about.
- Will you sell to my clients directly?
- The consumer product already exists and will keep existing — pretending otherwise would be dishonest. What we will not do is take a case that arrived through a firm. Cases that come to us and need a preparer get routed out, not kept.
Looking for software to file your own Form 8621 rather than a client's? That is a different question and it has its own page: Form 8621 software options. Practitioners receiving a client package should start at for CPAs & EAs.
