For CPAs, EAs & international tax firms

Prepare complex PFIC cases faster

A client arrives in March with forty UCITS positions, twelve years of holding periods and no cost basis on half of them. The allocation gets built by hand, in a spreadsheet, by whoever built it last time — and the review step has nothing to review against.

The engine that computes those allocations already exists and runs in production. The shared workspace around it is the next layer, and before we build it we want to hear from the people who would use it.

See it before you talk to anyone

Three things you can open right now, all built from one invented Swiss case through the same pipeline a live case goes through. No sign-up, no client data, no call.

What Atamatax Pro would do

Each row below says plainly whether it exists. The first six run today; the last two are the reason this page has a form on it rather than a price.

Import a client's holdings

Available

Broker CSV or an Interactive Brokers activity statement, parsed into positions with acquisition dates intact — the dates being the part a spreadsheet loses first and the §1291 allocation depends on entirely.

Engine exists

Identify what is actually a PFIC

Available

Each holding matched against the security knowledge graph, with the classification reason carried through: a dataset match, or a domicile-based presumption stated as one. No verdict without its basis next to it.

Engine exists

Compute the allocation

Available

§1291 across the real holding period with statutory top rates and daily interest, or QEF and mark-to-market where elected — the same engine that runs the consumer product, not a simplified copy.

Engine exists

Produce reviewable workpapers

Available

A worksheet block per PFIC mapped to the Part I/II/IV/V lines, plus the threshold arithmetic behind every Form 8938 and FBAR conclusion, and an assumption log for anything resting on an attestation.

Take the file as data, not as a PDF

Available

A structured hand-off dossier per case — accounts with their yearly maxima, holdings with their classification and its reason, the Form 8621 workload, the FBAR and Form 8938 threshold arithmetic, every unresolved item, every assumption, a source trace per figure and the engine versions behind it — as versioned JSON or CSV tables your own tooling can read. The sample below is built from an invented case through the same pipeline a live one goes through.

Read a client's case, by their invitation

Available

A client shares their secure case with you: you read the facts they confirmed, the checklist with the reason for each item, the documents, and the fund-by-fund trace, and you comment in the case thread. Read-only, revocable by the client, no accountant sign-up.

Pilot — live for invited accountants

Work an Atamatax case as the engaged professional

Available

Atamatax assigns its own paid cases — Streamlined catch-ups, PFIC years, annual returns — to independent EAs and CPAs it has vetted. You accept the case, work it inside a private workspace that shows only the cases assigned to you (facts, documents, the checklist, the client thread, the deliverables), and the engagement's scope and fee are agreed in writing before the first one. Access ends with the assignment.

By Atamatax's invitation — not a sign-up

Many clients, one workspace

Proposed

A client list, tax-year rollover, reviewer roles, sign-off on classifications, and an audit trail of who changed what.

Bulk and firm-level output

Proposed

Batch export across a client list, and a format your tax software will accept rather than a PDF someone rekeys.

What this page is

A pilot page, and saying so seems better than not. There is no multi-client workspace to log into and no price for one — we have not decided whether to build it, and a firm that signed up expecting that software would rightly be annoyed to find a form.

What does exist, today: the calculation engine in production, the client hand-off package firms already receive, the structured export above, a pilot in which a client shares their case with you to read and comment on, and — for the professionals Atamatax engages — a private workspace scoped to the Atamatax cases assigned to them. What we are missing is a clear picture of how this work actually moves through a firm — which we cannot derive from our own product and can only be told.

Join the pilot

Six short fields and one optional box. No client data, and nothing that commits you to anything: we reply personally with what the pilot can do for your cases today.

Foreign funds, several brokers, PFICs, catch-up years — roughly, across the firm.

We reply personally. No newsletter, no sequence, and nothing here is shared.

Questions

Does Atamatax Pro exist yet?
Not as a product you can sign up for. Three things exist today. The CPA Export a client hands you. A small pilot in which a client shares their secure case with you directly — you sign in with the address they invited, read the file (facts, documents, the fund-by-fund trace) and comment in the case thread; you cannot change anything, and the client can withdraw access at any time. And, separate from both, the private workspace in which a tax professional Atamatax has engaged works the Atamatax cases assigned to them — by Atamatax's invitation to one authorized email, and only the cases assigned. None of these is an accountant sign-up: a client shares, or Atamatax engages. Everything else on this page is what we are deciding whether to build. If you join the pilot you are joining a pilot with a person on the other end, not buying software.
What can I actually use today?
The $199 CPA Export, and the shared-case pilot. The export: a client runs their own holdings through Atamatax and hands you a package — per-fund PFIC classification with the reason attached, a Form 8621 worksheet block per holding, the Form 8938 and FBAR threshold arithmetic, Form 1116 detail, and an assumption log naming every figure that rests on a client attestation. The pilot: read-and-comment access to one client's case, by that client's invitation, with a downloadable trace of every figure to its source document. Both are preparation material for you to review, not a filed return.
Would I be handing you my clients' data?
Not on this page — nothing here asks for a client name, a holding, or a file. Client data moves only when a client shares their own case with you, or when an engagement is scoped and agreed in writing; the pilot starts from the sample export, not from a live file. We would rather learn slowly than hold data we have not earned.
How is this different from the consumer product?
The consumer product is one person, one return, one tax year. A practitioner needs many clients, a review step, an audit trail, and a year-over-year rollover — and the pricing question changes from a package price to per form, per client, or per seat. Those differences are the product, and they are exactly what we are asking you about.
Will you sell to my clients directly?
The consumer product already exists and will keep existing — pretending otherwise would be dishonest. What we will not do is take a case that arrived through a firm. Cases that come to us and need a preparer get routed out, not kept.

Looking for software to file your own Form 8621 rather than a client's? That is a different question and it has its own page: Form 8621 software options. Practitioners receiving a client package should start at for CPAs & EAs.
