Atamatax · U.S. cross-border tax services and software

Complex U.S. taxes. A clear way forward.

Understand the situation, see the scope and the price, then get the level of help it needs — software you file yourself, a written assessment, a package for your accountant, or a professional engaged through Atamatax to handle it.

Four ways in

Nationality, visa and where you live are questions the checks ask — they do not decide your U.S. tax status on their own.

  • Entrance A

    U.S. taxpayers living abroad

Citizens and green-card holders with a life outside the U.S. — the annual return, the foreign accounts, missed years.

    • Annual return with foreign income
    • FBAR and Form 8938
    • Years not filed
  • Entrance B

Living in the U.S. with foreign assets or a company

Residents of the U.S. who still hold funds, pensions or a company abroad — including Indian mutual funds held on an H-1B or a green card.

    • Foreign funds and Form 8621
    • A company abroad (Form 5471)
    • Gifts or an inheritance from abroad
  • Entrance C

Non-U.S. people and businesses with U.S. ties

Owners of U.S. property, people with U.S. income, founders with a U.S. LLC — whatever their nationality, the checks ask the facts that decide their U.S. status.

    • Selling U.S. property (FIRPTA)
    • U.S. income as a nonresident
    • A U.S. LLC owned from abroad
  • Entrance D

    CPAs, advisers and referral partners

Accountants who want specialist support on a PFIC or cross-border file while keeping their client, and realtors or title agents with foreign sellers.

    • PFIC workpapers for your return
    • Specialist support on one file
    • Introducing a foreign seller

Every situation, by what it is about

Personal Tax

The annual return and the reporting that comes with a life across borders.

Investments

Foreign funds, ETFs and pensions held by U.S. persons — abroad or in the U.S.

U.S. Property

Foreign owners of U.S. real estate, before, during and after a sale.

Business & Ownership

Companies on either side of the border, and the forms that follow the owner.

Notices & Complex Situations

Letters, corrections, inheritances and leaving U.S. tax residence.

How it works, whatever the situation

  1. Describe the situation

A short check asks only what your situation needs — ranges and "not sure" are fine. No account, no documents.

  2. See what may apply

The filings that may apply, what would settle each one, and what does not apply on your answers.

  3. Choose the level of help

Software you file yourself, a written assessment, a package for your CPA, or a managed engagement with a written quote.

  4. Track it to the end

A secure portal for documents, the scope and price in writing before you pay, and each step recorded as it happens.

Which kind of help?

Different services with different responsibilities — not one service at different prices.

  1. 01

    Automated preliminary check

    $0

The rules engine maps what may apply from your answers, on screen.

A screen of what may apply — a professional or a written assessment settles it.

You receive: An on-screen map of filing areas, with what would settle each.

    Map my U.S. tax situation
  2. 02

    Self-service software

    From $299

The engine prepares a draft filing package from the figures you enter and confirm.

Software output — you review it, sign it and file it; no professional review is included.

You receive: A draft package mapped to the supported IRS forms for one tax year.

    Compare the self-serve packages
  3. 03

    Written assessment

A year-by-year written report of which returns and forms apply, from your answers.

An assessment, not a return — the report names the returns; preparing them is a separate step.

You receive: A written report, with the review level stated on it.

    See the written assessment
  4. 04

    CPA handoff package

    $199

PFIC analysis and workpapers your own accountant prepares the return from.

Workpapers for your CPA — your CPA prepares, signs and files the return.

You receive: Worksheets and a PFIC analysis for your accountant.

    See the CPA handoff
  5. 05

    Managed preparation

Fixed price in a written quote

A qualified professional engaged through Atamatax prepares what your written quote lists; Atamatax coordinates.

Exactly the years, forms and work the written quote lists — related returns are added only by a change order you accept.

You receive: The returns and forms the quote lists, prepared and reviewed in the roles it names.

See how a managed quote works
  6. 06

    Filing or representation

Filing through a professional's authorised channel, or acting for you before the IRS, inside a managed engagement.

Only when your written quote names it and a qualified professional with the right authorization has accepted the case — never sold on its own.

You receive: A filing recorded on your case only with its confirmation.

Automated preliminary check

Who supplies the data
You, as answers and ranges — no documents.
Who prepares it
Nothing is prepared. The engine screens the holdings you enter, on screen.
Who checks it, and how
Nobody reviews it: it is an on-screen screen, not a determination, and each call shows the assumption behind it.
Who signs
Nothing to sign.
Who files
Nothing to file. The scan names the forms that may apply; filing them is a later step.
Which agency receives it
None — nothing is sent anywhere.
What stays with you or your CPA
Every decision; the result names the next step.

Self-service software

Who supplies the data
You enter and confirm the figures (a brokerage CSV can be imported).
Who prepares it
The Atamatax engine prepares a draft package from the figures you enter and confirm. No person prepares it.
Who checks it, and how
Nobody at Atamatax reviews it before you download it. A package generated with an open gap is stamped DRAFT — INCOMPLETE and lists what must be resolved, and every assumption is listed for you, or a professional you choose, to check.
Who signs
You sign every return and form — and your spouse too, on a joint return. Nothing is signed on your behalf.
Who files
You file — the return with the IRS using the package's instructions, the FBAR on FinCEN's BSA E-Filing System — or a professional you engage files for you. Atamatax transmits nothing to the IRS or FinCEN.
Which agency receives it
The IRS for the return, FinCEN for the FBAR — filed by you, with the instructions provided.
What stays with you or your CPA
Confirming every input, signing and filing.

Written assessment

Who supplies the data
You, as answers to the assessment's questions.
Who prepares it
The rules engine writes the year-by-year report from your answers. No return or form is prepared.
Who checks it, and how
A report whose conclusion should not be issued automatically — an amber or red status, a red flag, low confidence — is held and checked by a person at Atamatax before release; that check is operational, not a credentialed review. Any other report is released as generated, and says so.
Who signs
Nothing to sign — it is an assessment, not a return.
Who files
Nothing is filed. The report names the returns and forms that follow and the route that fits; you, or the professional you choose, act on it.
Which agency receives it
None — nothing is filed.
What stays with you or your CPA
Choosing the route the report recommends, and acting on it.

CPA handoff package

Who supplies the data
You enter and confirm the holdings and transactions.
Who prepares it
The engine builds the PFIC analysis and the worksheets from the entries you confirm. Your accountant prepares the return from them.
Who checks it, and how
Nobody at Atamatax reviews the export before you download it. Your accountant checks it — every classification and figure carries the assumption behind it.
Who signs
You sign your return; your accountant also signs it as paid preparer when they prepare it.
Who files
Your accountant files the return, or you do; the FBAR is filed on FinCEN's BSA E-Filing System. Atamatax transmits nothing to the IRS or FinCEN.
Which agency receives it
The IRS (and FinCEN for the FBAR) — through your accountant, or you.
What stays with you or your CPA
Your accountant keeps the return, the relationship and the filing.

Managed preparation

Who supplies the data
You, through documents in a secure portal — only after you accept the quote.
Who prepares it
A qualified CPA or enrolled agent Atamatax engages for your case prepares the returns and forms your quote lists; Atamatax collects the documents and coordinates the case. The professional is named on your case once assigned — never before.
Who checks it, and how
The engaged professional reviews the work in the capacity your quote names, and answers for it; a person at Atamatax checks the file is complete before it reaches you.
Who signs
You sign your return and, where it is e-filed, the e-file authorisation (Form 8879); the professional signs as paid preparer on any return they prepare.
Who files
As your written quote names it: e-filed through the engaged professional's authorised e-file provider where the year and forms allow it, otherwise a paper filing Atamatax coordinates for you to sign. Atamatax's own software transmits nothing; a filing is recorded on your case only with its confirmation.
Which agency receives it
As the quote names it: the IRS, FinCEN for FBARs, a state only where separately quoted.
What stays with you or your CPA
Confirming the facts, signing your return, and anything the quote leaves out — your existing CPA can keep the rest of the return.

Filing or representation

Who supplies the data
You — and the authorization the action needs (an e-file signature authorization, or Form 2848 for representation).
Who prepares it
A qualified CPA or enrolled agent Atamatax engages for your case prepares the returns and forms your quote lists; Atamatax collects the documents and coordinates the case. The professional is named on your case once assigned — never before.

Atamatax's own software transmits nothing; a filing is recorded on your case only with its confirmation.
Which agency receives it
The IRS (and FinCEN for FBARs) through the professional's channel; nothing is transmitted by Atamatax's software.
What stays with you or your CPA
Signing; any filing the quote does not name.
